The role DEC plays in the Humboldt Park Community; WHY ANDHOW A survey study conducted by SinaiUrban Health Institute (SUHI) in 2006concluded that 21% of Puerto Ricans inHumboldt Park were living withdiabetes. The mortality rate in Humboldt Parkwas 3 times higher than the U.S. In 2010 NIH granted Rush University2 million dollars to launch an initiative;in collaboration with SUHI theyconducted a 3 study called Block byBlock The Greater Humboldt ParkCommunity Diabetes EmpowermentCenter journey begins.
