TRANSFERRING DESIGNSFROM CD TO USBWhen you purchase an AnitaGoodesign product, you’ll find all ofthe designs, plus tons of other greatinformation included on a CD.This tutorial will show you how toinsert the CD into your computer andtransfer the designs onto your USBstick. Most machines have a built-inUSB port and can read the designsdirectly from the USB stick.If your embroidery machine uses adifferent method - card reader ordirect connect) please see your localdealer for additional instructions.WindowsStart by inserting the CD into yourcomputer.Once inserted, a dialog box mayopen and ask you what you want todo.Select the function that allows you toview the files on the CD.If the box does not automaticallyappear, you can go to your Startmenu and find the File Explorer.On some newer computers, the FileExplorer may automatically openwhen the CD is inserted.We will show you this process onboth a Windows and a Mac computer.Things to Keep In MindIf you do not have an embroiderysoftware installed on your computer,there is no way for your computer toopen the embroidery design. If youwere to double-click a design file,nothing would happen. Only yourembroidery machine and embroiderysoftware can read the design filesand show you a picture of the design.You do not need embroidery softwarein order to transfer your designs.We have included pictures of eachdesign in the tutorial along with a listof steps and colors.Each design comes in multipleformats (see the Different MachineFormats tutorial for more information).Most designs come in several sizes,therefore you do not need to resizethem. Please double check the sizeand make sure it is compatible withyour hoop size, otherwise the designwill not open in your machine.
TRANSFERRING DESIGNS - WINDOWSRegardless, you want to access thefiles on the CD from the D: drive, whichis easily located on the left hand sideof the File Explorer window.This particular CD contains ourAnimal Portraits collection.When you click on the D: drive, you’llsee all of the folders organized onyour CD. These folders contain lotsof helpful tools and materials, but themain two folders are called “BonusTutorials” and “Design Files.”Start by opening the Bonus Tutorialsfolder.Inside, you’ll more than likely seemore than one tutorial - we includelots of additional helpful informationwith all of our releases.The tutorial for the collection will betitled as such - in this case “AnimalPortraits Tutorial.” Double click toopen the tutorial.
TRANSFERRING DESIGNS - WINDOWSEach PDF tutorial will give you lots ofinformation about how to stitch thedesigns, how to complete a varietyof projects, samples for differentuses for the designs, and a stitchedsample of each design with a list ofthe thread colors we used.As you scroll through the tutorial,you’ll find a stitched sample of eachdesign. Look through and determinewhich designs you would like tostitch. In this case, we’re going tostitch FOXPORTRAIT2.You’ll want to keep this page handyhas you begin to sew out yourproject as it will walk you through themachine steps and color changes.Next, you’ll need to locate yourdesign on your CD. Go back out tothe D: drive which showed all of theavailable files on the CD.Double-click on the Design Filesfolder.You will see a list of folders containingdifferent formats.Locate the format your machine usesand double-click to open that folder.For this example we’ll use the botherbabylock-pes files.

You will notsee pictures of the designs - that’swhy we include pictures of eachdesign in the tutorial.Locate the design you want to use in this case, FOXPORTRAIT2.Insert your USB stick into yourcomputer.A dialog box may pop up askingyou what you want to do. Select thefunction that allows you to view thefiles. In some cases, this may openautomatically, and in some casesyou may need to open a second FileExplorer window through the Startmenu.When your USB stick opens (the E:drive), you will want to have bothwindows side by side so you can seethe files on the CD and where you’llbe transferring them on the USB stick.The box on the left is the design CD,the box on the right is the USB stick.
TRANSFERRING DESIGNS - WINDOWSWe suggest only adding a few filesat a time to your USB stick - we callthese files, “working files.” The morefiles on your stick, the longer it takesyour machine to load them.There are a couple ways to copyyour designs over to your USB stick:Drag & DropFirst, you could, click on the file youwish to you and hold the buttondown as you drag the files from theCD to the USB box. Once you arein the USB box, you can let go ofthe mouse. Notice that the file says“Copy” as you drag it into the USBbox. We are copying this file over, notremoving it from the CD - so don’tworry about losing files from the CD.Copy & PasteAnother way to copy your files is toright click on your file on the CD, andselect “Copy” from the drop downmenu that appears. Then right click inthe UBS box, and select “Paste” fromthe drop down menu.A new dialog box may appear asyour computer copies the files over.When the files have finished copyingover, the box will disappear.
TRANSFERRING DESIGNS - WINDOWSWe now have a copy of the designwe want to use on the USB stick.Repeat either the Drag & Drop orCopy & Paste steps for all the designsyou want to create, but remembernot to load too many designs on tothe USB stick at once.Remove the USB stick from yourcomputer by right clicking the E:drive in the menu to the left side ofyour File Explorer window, and select“Eject” - illustrated with arrow 1.3Once you are finished stitching outa design, you can delete it from thestick. Reinsert the UBS. You can rightclick the design and select “Delete”from the drop down menu - illustratedwith arrow 2.Or select the design file and click thedelete button from the tool bar alongthe top of your File Explorer menu illustrated with arrow 3.You will always have the design onthe CD if you wish to use it again.21
TRANSFERRING DESIGNS - MACMacWhen you insert your design CD intoyour Mac computer, the process willlook slightly different, but you’ll findthat the steps are very similar.The design CD will appear on yourdesktop by name.Double click the CD to access thefiles.A new window will open. The USB stick will appear on your desktop - the icon will look something like this. Double click to open the USB stick folder. Position both windows side by side so you can see the files on the CD and where you’ll be transferring them to on the USB stick.
